What to do with old electronics in a garage cleanout
Identify each device before pickup, protect personal data and flag batteries or damage separately.
Inventory the devices
List televisions, computers, printers and monitors. Mixed boxes make it harder to confirm an appropriate handling route.
Protect your information
Back up files you want to keep and erase personal data from devices you own. Remove storage media only if you know how to do so safely.
Flag batteries and damage
Tell the provider about swollen batteries, broken screens or leaking equipment. Do not put those into ordinary mixed junk.
Check the destination
Ask the provider how the devices will be handled. Local recycling programs and acceptance rules can change, so verify the current option directly.
